Convention News

Location  :  - The 2012  NAFCSC Convention returns to San Francisco

The bhoys of San Francisco have decided to give the convention another go around for 2012.  With the iron still hot from all the contacts the made from 2010 Convention they thought it would be worth doing again.

They can promote their  great city again and look at offering a lot of great events that were successful the last time around. Whether it was the golfing, the tour to the redwoods, Alcatraz and the famous tram car.

Monday, June 13th:
A day for every one to settle in and start to meet old friends and make new ones from all the various supporters clubs around the world. It is also the day the various club flags start to appear around the pool.

Tuesday, June 14th:
Afternoon Pool Party at Riviera hotel starts well before the start time of 2:00 p. m. and the finish time of 6:00 p. m.  It starts at poolside at around at 6am as people start to descend down to the pool to get the spot on the lounge chairs that are made available for the day. Getting your place to watch the event in the glory with your friends of getting a  is an event in it self and can only be seen to be believed.  The temperature for the day was 100 degrees.

The pool party host was Hugo Straney who was brilliant on the day, some people say it was the best every. This year the stage was in a new location at the end of the pool which made for some interesting times. The singing started slowly, as the brave ones started first but as the day went on there was more than enough talented folks to come a sing a song in front of a large crowd.

Wednesday, June 15th:
Golf at the Badlands Golf Club was an event of survival by itself. It was a very hot day   starting at 82 degrees at at 7am and around 102 degrees by 12:30pm so just surviving was a challenge for each foursome . To say a lot of water and Gatorade was drank would be an understatement. Beer time did not start until the 19th hole and the thirsts were quench at that time.

You meet a some great bhoys from other places and my case Alex from LA, and Paul Smith from Scotland and Steve from my club of Bramalea round out the group

The high for the day was 106 degrees with not a cloud in sight.

Cabaret at the Top of the Riviera
The cabaret night consists of Scottish Comedian's Pat Rollink & Phil Differ. I have not had any reports on the evening.

Thursday, June 16th:
President's meeting: was held in the morning for the clubs of the NAFCSC.

This is pick up day as attendance of additional people start to arrive for the three days in Vegas and start to add to the group already here.

The opening welcome night has now changed to a Green Night, which starts with performances by host Hugo Staney, and Patricia Ferns and the Kilenny's. A introduction of the players who attended are - Dixie Deans, Bertie Auld, Charlie Gallagher, Joe McBride, George McCluskey, Evan Williams, John Fallon and a special appearance by Nial McGinn.

Friday, June 17th:
Dinner Dance started with an outstanding meal the best we have had in many a year.  The host Hugo Staney the dancing started and then we had performance by Patricia Ferns and the Kilenny's. Players who attended are - Dixie Deans, Bertie Auld, Charlie Gallagher, Joe McBride, George McCluskey, Evan Williams, John Fallon and a special appearance by current Celtic player Nial McGinn.

A great night had by all as we usually always do at this event as we all support Glasgow Celtic. Too bad the team does realize that it has this type of support base in North America a golden chance of marketing lost again.

Saturday, June 18th:
Annual General Meeting is the NAFCSC affairs are discussed to over the events of the week. The big news was that Jackie Meehan is retiring as President after 17 years.

The meeting did look forward to 2012 when we all meet again , in San Francisco again as the bhoys stepped up do it all over again. Hoping to add again to the experience
